Neo-folk, post-punk, Melbourne dirge industrialists Lakes fit into a great many boxes, but none really do them proper justice. The material is possibly the most depressing you’ll have heard since Mutiny In Heaven, and it shares an element of the same wilful rambunctiousness, but even that is simplifying things a little. In any case, what you’re ending up with is an amazingly memorable post-punk lo-fi thing that’s completely worthwhile checking out.
Supporting on the night are Berlin kids Dit, who are getting a bit of attention right now with some decent support slots, along with fellow Berliners Ill Winds and Omen (former Acid Casualty front Hannah Schiefelbein) doing an ambient/lo-fi/found-sound solo set.
Presented in the lovely Raum space in Neuklln, a tremendously decent Friday night.
